Easy Rituals to Feel Great in the Morning

Waking up early and getting ready for the day can be tough for all of us. Making your way to the bathroom and seeing a grey, dull face staring back at you is enough to drain you of the little energy you got during the night. Especially when you’ve tried everything already, like heading out for a jog or starting your day with a solid breakfast, bursting with nutrients – sooner or later, you’re going to have to look at other aspects of your life. What is draining your energy and where does it all go?

Think about your bedtime routine

Sometimes, the quality of your sleep can be affected by your bedtime routine. Look into what you’re doing a few hours before hitting the sack. Having a TV in the bedroom, eating a large meal, and even keeping your bedroom too warm could easily affect your sleep – and, naturally, the way you feel when you wake up in the morning. Grey skin, baggy eyes, and general tiredness could be caused by so many things, and it’s important to give a bit of attention to each part of your day.

If you’re not feeling completely up to date upon awakening, make sure you calm yourself down completely before bedtime. It’s kind of the way you would treat your children before bed – and you should be your own parent, too. Dim the lights, have a nice, long bath and listen to some calming music rather than watching TV – as we know, the light from the screen will affect your natural rhythm.

Think about your morning routine

Some of us have a set routine in the morning, and it works wonders. If you’re one of those who wake up at 7 AM one morning and 10 AM the next, it’s no wonder your system gets a bit confused from time to time. It’s healthy to wake up at the same time every morning, as well as to go to bed at the same time. Soon enough, you’ll wake up automatically at the time you want to and feel kind of great.

A morning routine is as much about your bathroom as it is about waking up. Keep it clean and fresh, have a shower to feel even better, and make sure your bathroom lighting isn’t making you look sad and soggy. It’s something we don’t always think about, but it makes a huge difference. Looking at a tired and dull face and realising it’s your own is enough to make anyone go back to bed. Don’t be scared of caffeine either – it’s good for a lot of people and will help you feel a lot more concentrated and awake. For many, the habit helps even before they’ve had their first sip in the morning. Simply turning the coffee machine on and smelling the aroma when you step out of the shower, is often enough.
